You have the right to carry out alterations and improvements to your home at your own expense, such as erecting a TV aerial, fitting an extra gas fire or altering kitchen units. You must ask our permission before carrying out any works and we will inspect the work to ensure it has been carried out to our standard.
We will usually be happy to give permission as long as the proposed work would not make your home less safe (e.g. fitting bars on your windows), or reduce the amount of living accommodation, or result in an increase in our maintenance costs.
We will require that the work be of a good standard, that you bear all costs relating to the improvements, and that you maintain these alterations yourself. We may re-charge you if we have to do any corrective works at a later stage.
In certain very limited circumstances, you may be entitled to compensation for work carried out at your own expense if you later leave the property.
